Tennessee’s 2025 Bail Bond Law: What You Need to Know About Down Payments and Bail Bond Costs

May 4, 2026

When a loved one is in jail, understanding the cost of a bail bond is one of the first questions families ask. At All N One Bail Bonds, we want clients to understand the new Tennessee bail bond law that went into effect in 2025 and how it impacts payment requirements on every bail bond written in the state.

What Changed Under the 2025 Tennessee Bail Bond Law?

Under the 2025 Tennessee bail bond regulations, all licensed bail bond companies are now required to collect a minimum of:

  • 50% of the bail bond premium down
  • A mandatory $25.00 bond fee
  • A mandatory $12.00 Tennessee state tax

This law applies to all bail bond agencies operating in Tennessee and is designed to standardize payment requirements across the industry.

How Tennessee Bail Bond Premiums Work

In Tennessee, the standard bail bond premium is generally 10% of the total bond amount for Tennessee residents. This premium is the fee paid to the bail bond company for posting the bond with the jail or court.

Example:

  • $10,000 bond
  • 10% premium = $1,000
  • 50% required down payment = $500
  • Plus $25 bond fee
  • Plus $12 state tax

Total initial payment due: $537.00

The remaining balance may qualify for a payment arrangement depending on approval and the circumstances of the bond.

Why the Law Was Changed

The new Tennessee bail law was created to ensure greater accountability and financial responsibility in the bail bond industry. The state now requires every licensed agency to verify that at least half of the premium is collected before a bond can legally be posted.

Payment Plans May Still Be Available

At All N One Bail Bonds, we understand that unexpected arrests create financial stress for families. Even with the new Tennessee requirements, we may still be able to offer payment options on the remaining balance after the required down payment is collected.

Approvals may depend on:

  • Employment
  • Residency
  • Co-signer strength
  • Criminal history
  • Bond amount
  • Stability and collateral

What Is the $25 Bond Fee?

The $25.00 bond fee is a required fee added to Tennessee bail bonds. This fee is separate from the premium and must be collected in addition to the required down payment.

What Is the $12 Tennessee State Tax?

The $12.00 state tax is a mandatory Tennessee charge assessed on bail bonds. Licensed bail bond companies are required to collect and remit this tax according to Tennessee regulations.
